🌱 On October 8th, we joined the executives and team of Ecopet-Cristalpet, along with the President of the Republic, the Mayor of Canelones, the Minister of the Environment, and key national and regional authorities, for the inauguration of the new rPET production line at Ecopet’s plant.

This marks the culmination of a process initiated years ago, which includes: a national post-consumer PET bottle and packaging collection plan, the formalization of personnel involved in collection, the launch of a complete washing, shredding, drying, and purification plant to transform post-consumer PET into raw material suitable for food contact, complying with international regulations, and the production of rPET resin for “bottle-to-bottle” production and thermoformed packaging.

🤝 This strong strategic alliance—PROPACK-MEPAPLASTIC-ECOPET-CRISTALPET—has allowed us to test and validate PET flake and PET pellet standards in our sheet and thermoformed packaging, for use both in thermoformed packaging and preform injection for the “bottle-to-bottle” process. We have exceeded regional and global targets in the percentage of post-consumer material used in the final product, achieving up to 100% post-consumer resin in the final packaging.

This is a milestone for the packaging industry, a source of pride for Uruguay, and a triumph for our companies, which now operate under a vertical plan—from collecting post-consumer packaging (preventing it from ending up in waterways or landfills) to manufacturing new thermoformed packaging or bottles. This minimizes the use of virgin raw materials, protects the environment, complies with food safety regulations and certifications, and guarantees the safety of food and beverage contact. It integrates a virtuous cycle, reaffirming our commitment to the Circular Economy and Environmental Responsibility.

♻ Ecopet is the only plant in Uruguay capable of collecting and recycling 100% of the PET packaging generated in the country, transforming it into food-grade recycled resin (rPET) for the production of new bottles and packaging.

PROPACK and MEPA PLASTICS are the only extrusion-thermoforming plants in Uruguay with a sustainable model for processing post-consumer PET raw material into new high-quality packaging. Together with Ecopet, this makes the circular economy and post-consumer resource reuse the foundation of our processes.

The strategic partnership between Ecopet-Cristalpet-Propack-MEPA allows us to manufacture packaging with a sustainable cycle, crowning a joint effort with an unprecedented investment that makes the impossible possible. A great step towards a greener and more responsible future! 💚🌍
